Where to Next: A Friendly 4-Day Bahamas Guide
There’s something about landing in the Bahamas that makes your shoulders drop instantly. Maybe it’s the ocean air, maybe it’s the promise of a frozen drink before noon, or maybe it’s just knowing you’re about to spend the next few days somewhere that looks like a screensaver in real life.
If you’re thinking about a quick island getaway, here’s exactly how my trip went, what was worth it, and a few things to know ahead of time!
First things first: Bring cash!!!
We arrived on a Saturday morning, caught a taxi, and headed to our Airbnb on the local side of the island. Very important note right out of the gate: bring cash. You’ll want it for taxis and for a few of the smaller, more local spots.
Staying in an Airbnb on the local side gave the trip a more relaxed, lived-in feel. It felt less like being tucked away in a resort bubble and more like actually getting to experience the island.
Day 1: Baha Mar for lunch
Once we got settled, we headed to Baha Mar for lunch. If you want a mix of upscale resort energy, convenience, and plenty to do in one place, this is a solid stop. Beyond lunch, Baha Mar has a lot going on. You can make a whole afternoon of it with:
the water park
the casino
shopping
wandering around and pretending you’re casually rich for a few hours
Day 2: Love Beach & Sunset dinner at Latitudes
Sunday was for beach mode. We went to Love Beach, which felt more local and laid-back than a resort beach. Nirvana Beach bar is conveniently located at the beach for drinks and food. Make sure to bring cash – $5 per adult to get in.
We rented lounge chairs, umbrellas, and towels, and yes, that was cash, too (Approx. $25 per person). At this point, the Bahamas had kindly reminded me for the second day in a row that cash is not optional, it is part of the itinerary.
That evening, we had dinner at Latitudes around sunset, and it was one of the highlights of the trip.
A little tip: if you want the best direct sunset view, ask to sit inside by the far windows. We sat outside, which gave us a gorgeous ocean breeze and still felt dreamy, just in a different way.
Food-wise, I had the Linguine Alfredo with chicken, which was absolutely delicious. But the real star of the table was the octopus, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, and one of those dishes that makes you stop mid-bite and point your fork at the person next to you like, “Wait. Try this.”
Day 3: Paradise Island & Atlantis
On Monday, we crossed over to Paradise Island to spend time at Atlantis.
Another cash tip: you’ll need $2 cash for the toll booth on the way over. Tiny detail, but the kind that feels deeply annoying if you don’t know it in advance.
Once we got there, we paid $21 for valet parking, and honestly, worth it. It made the whole arrival smoother and let us get right into exploring.
We headed straight to the casino, had lunch at Amber inside, then walked outside to browse the shops.
One of the cutest little stops of the day was The Dilly Club for drinks. It was adorable, beautifully decorated, and the service was wonderful. Very Instagram-friendly.
Day 4: Airport Tip that will save you time
We left early Tuesday morning, and this is one airport detail you’ll definitely want to know if you’re flying back to the U.S.
If you’re traveling to the U.S. from the Bahamas, the departure gate setup is at a different location from the other international gates because you can complete U.S. immigration in the Bahamas before you leave.
My biggest tip: download the Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app before you go to the airport. Once you’re there, you can complete your customs submission in the app, and it’ll give you a window number to go to. That can help you skip the longer line, which is exactly the kind of vacation miracle I fully support.
Quick Tips:
Bring more cash than you think you’ll need for taxis, beach rentals, and smaller local expenses.
Staying on the local side of the island gives you a different experience than staying inside a resort.
Love Beach is a great choice for a more laid-back beach day.
Gratuity is often included, check your bill!
If you’re going to Atlantis, valet may be worth the splurge.

My honest take after four days:
The best part of this trip was mixing the local side of the island with some of the bigger, more polished spots like Baha Mar and Atlantis. It gave the trip balance. We got the beachy, relaxed, local feel, but also a little glam, good food, and fun places to wander.
If I had to sum up this Bahamas trip in one sentence, it would be: pack your cash, chase the sunset, order the octopus, and thank yourself later.
